FSSAI License and Registration is required for any food business in India that manufactures, stores, transports or distributes food. Depending on the size and nature of the company, the types of FSSAI licenses that may be required are decided. In the FSSAI Registration process, the FBO will get a 14-digit number that needs to be printed on food packages mandatorily.

The Food Business Operator conducting its business within the boundaries of its district requires a very basic Fssai License with turnover less than Rs.12 Lakhs.

FSSAI License

The FBO has an annual turnover of more than Rs.12 lakh or by the FBO engaged in food processing and manufacturing.

  • State License: When an FBO has an annual turnover of more than Rs. 12 lakh but not exceeding Rs. 20 crore.
  • Central License: When an FBO has an annual turnover of more than Rs. 20 crore.

Procedure of Registration

First step

Prepare the Required Documents such as Identity proof of the proprietor, list of food products to be manufactured or processed, declaration form (Form-D) for the nomination of a person responsible for food safety.

Second step

Complete the Application Form: Fill out the FSSAI application form specific to your category of registration or license. These forms are available on the FSSAI website.

Third step

Submit the Application and Pay the Required Fees: You can submit your application form along with the required documents to the FSSAI office either online or in person. The FSSAI has a user-friendly online portal for application submissions.

Fourth step

Verification and Inspection: After receiving your application, the FSSAI authorities will conduct a verification and inspection of your food premises. This inspection may be scheduled based on the nature and scale of your food business.

Documents Required

There are certain documents in common which is required to obtain all the three- Basic, State and Central Licenses such as a Photo of FBO, Incorporation proof, Rental Agreement, Food safety management system plan, List of food products, Bank account information, and supporting documents (if required) like NOC by Municipality or Panchayat, Health NOC, copy of License from the manufacturer, etc.
